I'm always searching craigslist, kijiji, and various car groups on Facebook for cool listings. This particular one posted in the Ontario Drag Race Classifieds really caught my attention. Probably because I've always had this unspoken thing for the AMC Gremlin.
I know there are people rolling there eyes at another LS-swap, but I love this thing. A relatively inexpensive, lightweight drag car/daily driver. And rather unsuspecting. The owner could have chosen a Vega or Pinto, but I find the Gremlin was a more unique choice.
This 1973 model was purchased with no motor in it. It was originally a 304 X car. As it stands now, it currently has a 2000 Camaro LS1 with a 4L60E auto transmission. This car has undergone serious modifications which include altering the front cross member to fit the LS1, a completely new front suspension, as well, its rear axle is now a narrowed Ford Explorer 8.8 posi with 3.27:1 gears. The car has a mostly stock interior and has been used as a daily driver for the last 7 years. As for the wheels, they came off an Eagle Talon and were later painted black by the owner.
The "Murder Gremlin" as it is called, previously had 3.73:1 gearing. On the dragstrip, the car ran a time of 12.69 at 110 mph! The video can be seen here.
As mentioned before, this car is now on the market. The owner lives in Guelph, Ontario and the price currently sits at $9500 CAD. I think this LS-swapped Gremlin could be a such a fun and hilarious ride. I especially like the LS-X badges on the front fenders and hatch. What do you think of this daily driven drag car?
